Welcome to NBRA

National Boat Racing Association (NBRA) offers some of the best competition to be found in stock and modified outboard boat racing. Be it hydroplane or runabout outboard boats. NBRA offers premier competition in 14 different classes, ranging from the small yet challenging Novice class for the beginner, up to the fast and exciting Super E class for the more experience driver. It is the mission of NBRA to keep the “grass root” style of boat racing available and affordable for future generations. Bring the whole family and enjoy a weekend of boat racing with NBRA.
THE COMPETITION LAST FOR THREE LAPS-THE FREINDSHIPS FOREVER

Message From President

Welcome to the National Boat Racing Association’s informational web site! While we’re not the biggest sanctioning boat racing association in the world, we certainly have fun on the lake each summer! We were formed to keep stock and modified outboard racing a fun, affordable and family sport. And, throughout our young life, we’ve done that very thing for racers from the Pacific Northwest, across the Great Plains and into the Deep South. You’ll find NBRA racers of every age and from all walks of life—all drawn together by the thrill of competition and the camaraderie of friends and family who race together. If you want economical but stiff competition, you’ve come to the right place. If you want an organization that you can grow with, we’re the folks. If you like to race—or want to get started in racing—we can help, and we’d love to have you as a member. Spend some time on this web site, check out the folks involved, download a membership form and join…it’s all that easy. If you want more information just about anybody in NBRA is a good ambassador for what we do. If you like what you see, and would like to “go fast and turn left” with us, let us know. And, you can call me in the evenings for more information. I’m a relatively new racer and have found NBRA to be an excellent place to compete and learn. Just call. You’re always welcome! Sincerely, Jeff Ruth L-77 NBRA President Phone (479) 927-2847 or e mail thetrailergod@yahoo.com. Comments on boat racing can be made on NBRA's message board under kneeldownboatracing@yahoogroups.com

News: We will miss you Joe

National Boat Racing Association (NBRA) lost one of its great boat racers, Jovon D Schultz, “Joe”. Joe was the second President of NBRA and during his two year term with this young organization and made the hard decisions that would keep NBRA alive and well. The toughest time him faced in office is when he found out right before the start of the 2002 race season that NBRA was unable to be insured by the previous year’s company. Many hours were spent looking for a solution when he hooked up with Rick Felsen, Hawk Consultants. Rick came up with a good policy however, the cost to the small clubs then became a problem and that when Joe put before the commissioners to use the driver’s fee for a re-imbursement program back to the clubs, off setting the increase in the insurance cost.

Jovon (Joe) was a man of strong convictions. His love for boat racing was something to be admired. He had a favorite saying "Man the torpedoes full steam ahead" when things weren't going to hoyle. He loved our sport and the people that participated. When Joe Schultz and family would show up at the races you knew that the competition had arrived.

Joe owned a farm outside of Cedar Rapids and had a shop that was his retreat. He would go to the farm and tinker with motors, boats and his antique cars. Those that knew him looked up to him as a mentor, friend, and knew he was always there if they needed to discuss something. One boat racer even referred to him as his "champion". This is a testimonial says it all.

Joe had two sons and a grandson that he started in boat racing. So the spirit lives on through his heirs.
God Speed Joe... We will see you in the first turn.

Vote on Rule changes for 2008
Posted by : Mackey  on  Saturday, January 12, 2008 - 07:18 PM
Viewed 171 times!TOPIC:
A full ballot of rule changes faced members of the National Boat Racing Association (NBRA) as they voted on 11 issues which will affect the 2008 racing season. The only issue on the ballot that went down to defeated, in this year’s election, would allow the use of a restrictor plate with a 7/16 X 1 5/8 inch opening to be used in the Yamato 102-202-302 engines and run in the A Hydroplane Class. The A Class will remain the same as last season.

This year the 2008 General Rules will see the following changes. Passing unanimously was the change that now requires all members of the Racing Commission to be current members of NBRA, with their yearly dues paid prior to January 15th. Passing by a 70% margin is the time period that an NBRA elected official may stay in office. It removes the word “year” and adds in its place the word “term”. Term is defined as two consecutive year, so that an elected official may be in an elected position up to four years. What also passed by a strong majority is procedures for impeachment of an elected NBRA officer.

In an effort to clarify the Racing Commission’s authority, the wording, the Racing Commission has the authority over the Association’s safety program, will be added to the commissions responsibilities.

With five no votes, the single event memberships are now no longer eligible for National Championships recognition, prizes or award. This positive vote supports the Racing Commission’s policy letter for 2008 not to accept APBA or AOF cards at the national events.

National Boat Racing recognizes that it can not dictate how local clubs presents awards or cash prizes to the Novice Class. With an eighteen to three vote NBRA now makes the recommendation that at local races if awards or cash prizes are given, each Novice driver will share equally. This keeps in line with NBRA’s policies for Novice award or cash prizes at national events. A second issue in the Novice class is how to keep the speed these young drivers run in a safe zone with out up setting drivers skills under competition. A unanimous vote gives the referee the authority to shorten the Novice course to slow the straight away speed down.

There will be a swap in engine eligibility in the C Modified class for 2008. The removal of the Chrysler 302 and 304 engines was approved by the C Mod drivers. In its place the Johnson/Evinrude 31.5 ci power head, built from 1976 to 1999, in stock configuration is to be added. The D Class will see the availability of the Johnson/Evinrude 41.5 power heads manufactured from 1970 to 1976 to run in the class this year.

The rule changes will be in the new 2008 NBRA Rule book that will be available and sent out with the 2008 memberships.
